What’s the SSW-1?

We will help you solve the labor shortage by hiring qualified personnel.

From April 2019, a new status of residence has been introduced in response to the growing labor shortage. Of these, "SSW-1, Specific Skilled Worker-1" means that foreign workers who meet certain standards in each field can work for up to 5 years in 14 specific industrial fields. We will properly match this SSW-1 qualified person with domestic businesses, and also support the continuation of employment.


Outline of SSW-1

Period of stay
Renewal every 1 year, 6 months or 4 months, up to 5 years in total.
Skill level
Confirmed by examination etc. (Foreigners who have completed Technical Intern Training No. 2 are exempt from examination etc.)
Japanese Language Proficiency Level
Confirm Japanese language proficiency necessary for daily life and work by examination etc.
(Foreigners who have completed Technical Intern Training No. 2 are exempt from the examination)
Family accompaniment
Basically not allowed - Support: Period of stay covered by support from the host or registration support agency.
